Moscow has expressed grave concern over the violent escalation in Sudan, saying it hopes to avoid an expansion of the conflict by the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The Russian ambassador in Cairo, Georgy Borisenko, conveyed Moscow’s commitment to supporting the resumption of “Jeddah Platform” negotiations to stop the fighting in the country.
Borisenko stressed that Russia does not interfere in the form of Sudanese government or its choices of government, whether civilian or military.
Sudanese army aircraft carried out raids on the towns of al-Rahad and Amrwaba in North Kordofan state, resulting in injuries and destruction of residential homes.
According to eyewitnesses, the airstrikes caused a state of terror and panic among the residents of the area, prompting them to hide in their homes for fear of renewed attacks, and this is the first time that the city of Al-Rahad has been subjected to air attacks in several months.
In a related context, the Rapid Support Forces announced their solidarity with the victims of the aerial bombardment, considering the attacks targeting unarmed citizens.
Other areas of Sudan are witnessing continued aerial bombardment and an escalation in violence, killing and injuring hundreds of civilians and destroying private and public property.
Clashes between the Sudanese army and the (RSF) erupted in mid-April 2023 and were reinforced by disagreements over plans to integrate the (RSF) into the Sudanese army.
