The Egyptian government headed by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly withdrew the Egyptian citizenship from director Wael Seddiqi, according to Decision No. 44 of 2024, as a result of him obtaining a foreign citizenship without obtaining prior permission.
The decision includes revoking the citizenship of Wael Osama Othman Abbas Seddiqi, born in Alexandria on May 23, 1978, after he was naturalized with a foreign citizenship, due to his naturalization with a foreign citizenship without obtaining prior permission.
The Agouza Prosecution had referred the model Reda El-Fouly, who appeared in the clip “Sib Idi”, and director Wael Seddiqi, to an urgent trial on charges of inciting debauchery and immorality.
It is noteworthy that the clip “Sib Idi” sparked widespread controversy in 2015 due to its obscene content and indecent connotations, which many considered to be harmful to Egypt’s artistic reputation, and the Agouza Misdemeanor Court ruled to imprison Reda El-Fouly and Wael Seddiqi for one year with hard labor.
In a related context, a source within the Cinema Professions Syndicate confirmed that director Wael Seddiki is not a member of the Cinema Syndicate, noting that many directors and content creators on social media are not members of the syndicate.
