Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that Moscow and Beijing agree to reject any external interference in Taiwan, stressing that it is an integral part of China.
This came during a press conference held by Lavrov after the conclusion of his talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Lavrov noted that the two sides thoroughly discussed the tasks of ensuring security and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, in light of increasing tensions between the United States, Russia and China.
Lavrov added that the military-political alliances formed by the United States in the region represent a direct threat to both Russia and China, stressing that these alliances are aimed at undermining their sovereignty.
Regarding Taiwan, the Russian minister stressed that it is an integral part of China, and that Russia supports Beijing in rejecting any external interference in this regard.
Regarding sanctions, Lavrov pointed out that Russia and China intend to solve these obstacles within the framework of the BRICS group and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, noting that the Chinese foreign minister, the previous day, devised the formula of “double response against double containment.”
“My counterpart spoke in great detail about the specific economic gaps that have arisen as a result of the illegal policy of unilateral sanctions that we will resolve within the framework of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization,” he said.
Lavrov concluded his remarks by stressing the unprecedented rise in relations between Russia and China, noting that cooperation between the two countries enhances the stability of the region and the world.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and that sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy, noting that the main goal of the West is to harm the lives of millions of people.
