Warships of the Russian Pacific Fleet recently conducted joint exercises with the Egyptian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the missile cruiser “Varyag” and the frigate “Marshal Shaposhnikov”, which left the port of Alexandria after a working visit, participated in these exercises.

From the Egyptian side, the frigate “Al-Qadir” also participated, which is considered one of the most modern Egyptian naval vessels and is equipped with advanced technologies and modern weapons systems.

The Russian Ministry confirmed that these exercises reflect another practical step in strengthening maritime cooperation between Russia and Egypt.

During the exercises, participants practiced forming a joint group of ships in a specific area, carrying out tactical maneuvers, and communications training. The activities also included training on taking off helicopters from the decks of ships and flying them over seawater.

Russia had previously conducted joint naval exercises with Iran and China near the Gulf of Oman, which lasted for several days in March and aimed to work on the safety of maritime economic activity and enhance regional maritime security.

It also conducted maneuvers with the Eritrean Navy between March 28 and April 5, 2024, in which the Russian frigate “Marshal Shaposhnikov” participated.
