Former presidential candidate Ismail al-Shteiwi denied reports of his candidacy for the presidency of the new Libyan government, saying, “I am not honored and Dbeibeh leads us to ruin.”

In his statements to the media, Shteiwi said: “I challenge any member of the House of Representatives or in any country to prove that I asked him to recommend me to run for the presidency of the new government,” and added: “Some members contacted me thinking that I am looking for recommendations and I was surprised by the request of some of them bribes, ministries and others.”

Shteiwi explained that he did not ask for any recommendations from the beginning, pointing out that this type of recommendation does not honor him, especially from people seeking influence and are not interested in building the nation, but rather increase its destruction and tragedies.

He concluded his statement by warning of the danger of the continuation of the Libyan Government of National Unity headed by Abdul Hamid Dabeibeh, noting that it will lead the country towards further ruin and bankruptcy.

In a related context, the media advisor to the Presidency of the House of Representatives, Fathi Al-Marimi, confirmed that a number of candidates for the presidency of the new government submitted their candidacy files to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Counselor Aguila Saleh, according to the conditions agreed in advance between the House of Representatives and the state.

Among the most prominent candidates for the presidency of the new government are the governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Al-Sadiq Al-Kabir, the former head of the Telecommunications Holding Company, Faisal Qarqab, the presidential candidate Fadil Al-Amin, Muhammad Al-Mezoughi, who was previously nominated by the State Consultative Council to succeed Dbeibeh, and presidential candidate Abdelhakim Bayou, who had previously received the recommendation of a number of members of the House of Representatives to head the new government.

For his part, Dbeibeh again defended his stay in office while attending the fourth meeting of the Council of Ministers of Youth and Sports of the Community of Sahelo-Saharan States in the capital Tripoli, saying that his government “has achieved successes that were felt by all citizens”.
