The American company Wonder announced the start of production of the drama series “The House of David,” which will witness the participation of Egyptian star Michael Alexander in the role of King David, along with a number of Israeli and Arab artists.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the series, which will be shown on a major American digital platform, brings together artists Ali Suleiman and Ashraf Barhoum, who play the roles of King Saul and Doug, respectively, while Yali Topol Margalit, the granddaughter of the late artist Haim Topol, leads the list in the role of Merav. The series seeks to present the rise of Daoud Malkao and the challenges he faced on his way to power, in light of complex political and family circumstances punctuated by conspiracies and internal conflicts.
Filming of the series began in Greece, and it is expected to provoke mixed reactions among the audience, especially in light of the cultural and religious background of the characters it deals with.
It is noteworthy that there are several works in which Arab and Israeli actors participated. There is the Israeli series “Fauda,” which tells the story of an Israeli intelligence officer working secretly in Damascus and witnessed the participation of Arab actors in various roles, as well as the Israeli-Palestinian film “Ajami,” which depicts life in Ajami neighborhood in Tel Aviv.
Some joint works, such as the series “Ghosts of Beirut,” sparked widespread controversy over the participation of Palestinian and Arab artists with Israelis.
