Egypt’s Zamalek are close to reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Zamalek beat Modern Future 2-1 in the first leg of the quarter-finals, and USM Algiers, the defending champions, defeated visiting Nigeria’s Rivers United with a goal without reply.
Zamalek started the game strongly trying to score an early goal, but the precedence was for “Modern Future” when he scored the first goal, and Zamalek equalized the result before the end of the first half.
In the final minutes, Zamalek got a penalty kick carried out by Ahmed Sayed “Zizou” successfully, giving his team victory.
Morocco’s Nahda Berkane returned with a precious point from Libya’s Abu Salim after a goalless draw, while Ghana’s Dreams recorded a 2-1 away win at Malian Stadium, bringing them closer to the next round.
The second leg will be crucial, with Zamalek hoping to capitalise on their lead to reach the semi-finals, while USM Alger will be looking to turn the tables and make up for their loss in Nigeria.
