The debate began with the economy, which is considered the top priority of the American people, as Biden criticized Trump’s management of the economy and described it as “collapsed” when he took office, pointing to his administration’s efforts to create new job opportunities and improve economic conditions.
Biden said: “The debt during his (Trump) term was greater than any other period in the history of America, and he reduced taxes on the wealthy, and if they had provided 24 or 25%, we would have been able to obtain funds to eliminate the debt, strengthen the health care system, and allow Americans to deal with problems.” a lot”.
For his part, Trump defended his economic policies, stressing that reducing corporate taxes restored hundreds of billions of dollars to the American economy. He accused Biden of destroying Social Security and health insurance, and described what Biden did in this regard as “criminal,” as he put it.
The issue of abortion and the repeal of the “Roe v. Wade” law formed a main focus in the debate, and Trump strongly defended his position on repealing the law and said: “Everyone wanted to return the powers to the states, and what I did was I appointed three to the Supreme Court who voted in favor of repealing this law and returning the powers to the states.” And every legal thinker wanted that.”
As for Biden, he defended a woman’s right to abortion, and rejected politicians’ interference in her health, as he put it, and added: “The woman decides with her doctor, and it is a matter for her.”
The two parties discussed the issue of immigration at length, with Biden stressing the necessity of working between the two parties to reach a solution to the immigrant problem, noting the decline in the number of illegal immigrants at the present time.
On the other hand, Trump accused the immigrants of posing a threat to American security and called for taking strict measures to remove them from the country.
Regarding foreign policy, the two sides exchanged accusations about dealing with international issues, as Trump held Biden responsible for the war in Ukraine and accused him of dragging the world into a “Third World War,” while Biden stressed the importance of continuing to support Ukraine against Russia.
Regarding the Gaza war, Trump criticized Biden’s policies, which he claimed were the reason behind the October 7 attack, and added, “Biden says that it is Hamas that does not want a ceasefire, but it is Israel that does not want a ceasefire. They must end the matter,” and described Trump Biden is a “bad Palestinian” in reference to the US President’s support for the Palestinians at the expense of Israel, as he put it.
The debate sparked many reactions and discussions, as expert on American affairs, Walid Al-Hashlamoun, said that the debate was characterized by enthusiasm and increasing tensions, and each of the candidates sought to demonstrate his political strength.
Al-Hashlamoun added that the public opinion polls that will be conducted after this debate are of great importance for knowing the American voter’s reaction to it, and it is very important to follow up on many of them in order to reach more accurate results related to the percentage of American voters’ belief in each of the candidates, and the extent of the impact resulting from the candidates’ language and performance. Which seemed weak on Biden’s part and did not bring anything new on Trump’s part.
