The Russian United Shipbuilding Company said that its experts are working on a project to develop new civilian ships designed to sail in the Arctic regions.
According to the statement issued by the company’s press service, “Experts at the Russian Almaz Naval Design Center are working on designing new civilian ships capable of sailing in the Arctic regions.”
The statement explained that “the new Conshire ships are upgraded versions of icebreakers manufactured by Russia within the framework of Project 23550 and will be designated for sea cruises and transporting passengers in the Polar seas and will receive special equipment that enables them to dock in ice-covered waters or in water areas not equipped with ports.” “It will also be used on exploratory cruises or scientific and research trips.”
The statement indicated that the new “Consair” ships will be equipped with platforms to carry drones and platforms to carry helicopters, and these planes will help them explore their path and discover icebergs and will be used in scientific research operations.
Regarding dimensions and carrying capacity, each ship is 112 meters long and 20 meters wide, with a water displacement equivalent to 9,000 tons, and the ships can carry 74 passengers in addition to a crew of 55 people.
In terms of speed and independence, these ships can sail at a speed of 12 knots and cover 800 nautical miles per trip, with the ability to operate for 35 days without the need to refuel and supply supplies.
