The UN mission in Libya has launched an online survey to gather citizens’ opinions on how the United Nations can support women’s empowerment in the political arena.
Sixty-three participants, including both men and women, took part in the survey, with one-third emphasizing the importance of involving women in decision-making to improve political and economic conditions in Libya.
The UN mission also posted on its official website the participants’ confirmation that integrating women provides diverse perspectives on key issues, contributing to comprehensive decision-making and the development of innovative policies.
One participant from Tripoli, aged 55, emphasized women’s role in promoting peace and improving living standards, especially when they hold leadership positions.
A 23-year-old Amazigh woman from Zuwara stressed the benefits she gained from women-targeted training programs, emphasizing the importance of future training in facilitating women’s access to political life.
Participants unanimously stressed the need for greater UN support for women, recommending ensuring inclusive participation that accommodates women from various parts of Libya.
They also called for allocating quotas for women in government institutions and enhancing laws and policies supporting women’s rights and protecting them from violence, including on social media platforms.
Recommendations included enhancing communication and advocacy skills among women to improve their political participation and influence and calling for awareness-raising workshops in universities and schools to promote women’s rights.
