The head of the Libyan interim government, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, announced the resumption of Turkish Airlines flights to Libya after a ten-year hiatus.
Dabaiba pointed out that Turkish Airlines will resume its flights starting next week, as it will depart three flights a week from Istanbul Airport to Mitiga Airport in Tripoli, on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Dabaiba praised the efforts of the Libyan transport and civil aviation sector in achieving the technical requirements necessary for the return of international airlines to the country, stressing that the resumption of Turkish flights reflects continuous efforts to achieve stability despite the challenges.
For his part, the Minister of Transport in the interim government, Muhammad Al-Shahoubi, confirmed that the resumption of Turkish flights came after the signing of two memorandums of understanding between the Civil Aviation Authority and Turkish Airlines, explaining that all technical requirements have been met.
Al-Shahoubi added that Turkish Airlines will start direct flights to and from Mitiga Airport starting next week and is expected to resume flights at the rest of the Libyan airports successively.
The announcement comes about 10 days after the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Air Transport Affairs in the interim government, Khaled Souissi, received a copy of the memorandum of understanding on the return of Turkish Airlines to Libyan airports, from the Turkish ambassador to Libya, Kanan Yilmaz.
