Turkish authorities announced that they foiled a plot by terrorist organization “ISIS” that attempted to target the Iraqi embassy in Ankara and temples and churches in Istanbul. Authorities revealed that a new entity was established by ISIS under the name “Suleiman Al-Farsi Brigade.”
Turkish security forces have detained 32 suspects over alleged links with Islamic State jihadists who were planning attacks on churches and synagogues, security sources said on Friday.
The Turkish Intelligence Organisation (MIT) and police carried out dawn raids in nine cities including Istanbul and the capital Ankara against the group, the source said.
Three of the suspects were allegedly senior members of the extremist group.
The operation foiled the planned attacks on “synagogues and churches in Turkey” as well the Iraqi embassy in Ankara, the source added.
Over the past months, Turkey has intensified operations against IS jihadists and so many documents were found.
Last week, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said through his account on X that the police detained 304 suspects in operations across 9 Turkish states, and that the people who were arrested, were carrying out exploratory work on Jewish and Christian worship houses in Istanbul, and belong to a group established by “ISIS” in Turkey, called “Suleiman Al-Farsi Brigade.”
