Iraqi authorities executed at least 11 people by hanging this week after convicting them of “terrorist offences” and belonging to the Islamic State.
Agence France-Presse, quoting a security official in Dhi Qar province (south), said that “11 ISIS terrorists were executed in al-Hout prison in the city of Nasiriyah under the supervision of a team from the Ministry of Justice.”
A medical source in the Dhi Qar Health Department confirmed “the receipt of the bodies of 11 defendants who were executed inside Al-Hout prison on Monday.”
On April 18, an Iraqi court sentenced to death eight people accused of recruiting prisoners into prisons for ‘ISIS’.
In February, Iraq executed five Iraqis convicted of “terrorism” in Nasiriyah prison.
It is noteworthy that Iraqi law punishes with death anyone convicted of “terrorism”, and since Iraq declared the defeat of ‘ISIS’ in 2017, Iraqi courts have witnessed hundreds of death sentences against ISIS members.
