Tunisia and New Zealand face off to determine third place in the Egyptian Capital Cup, today, Tuesday, at ten pm Cairo time at Cairo International Stadium.
Tunisia failed to qualify for the final of the Egyptian Capital Cup, after losing to Croatia on penalties after the original time expired in a goalless draw.
Croatia decided the penalty shootout in its favor, after the trio of the Tunisian national team Hamza Jelassi, Saif Jaziri and Osama El Haddadi missed their kicks, compared to two missed kicks from Croatia.
New Zealand lost to Egypt by a goal without reply in the same tournament, where the goal was scored by Mustafa Mohamed from the penalty spot in the 29th minute.
The Carthage Eagles are led by Montaser Al-Wuhayshi, his assistant Anis Al-Bousaidi and Chadli Al-Mabrouki to train the guards, while Anis Al-Shaalali and Anas Kazouz are in charge of physical preparation.
Despite Tunisia’s early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after defeat by Namibia and draws with Mali and South Africa, they top Group H in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after beating Sao Tome, Principe, and Malawi.
Tunisia is scheduled to face Equatorial Guinea and Namibia in June in the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The friendly “Capital Cup of Egypt” tournament kicked off with the participation of the teams of New Zealand, Tunisia, Croatia, and Egypt.
The tournament, which is included in FIFA’s international calendar, will conclude on March 26, 2024, with the final match between Egypt and Croatia at the Egypt Stadium, while Tunisia and New Zealand will compete for third place at Cairo Stadium.
