The Tunisian Minister of Religious Affairs, when he received on Friday at the ministry’s headquarters the Syrian ambassador in Tunisia, received a written message from the Syrian Minister of Awqaf Mohamed Abdel Sattar Al-Sayed.
Tunisian Minister of Religious Affairs Dr. Ibrahim Chaibi and Syrian Ambassador to Tunisia Mohamed Mohammed stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations, especially in the religious field, by spreading the values of moderation and rejecting extremism and extremism and confronting religious extremism.
The meeting was attended by a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad, a number of officials of the Tunisian Ministry of Religious Affairs, and an advisor to the Syrian ambassador in Tunisia.
Syria appointed its first ambassador to Tunisia after 12 years following the severance of diplomatic relations between the two countries in mid-2011, months after Tunisia appointed its ambassador to Damascus.
On June 8, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad accepted the credentials of Mohammed al-Mahdebi as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tunisia to Syria.
