Thousands of tourists flocked to watch the sun perpendicular to the “Holy of Holies” at the Temple of Ramses in the southern city of Abu Simbel in Egypt’s Aswan province on Thursday.

The phenomenon, which began at exactly six o’clock and 20 minutes Aswan time, lasted for only 20 minutes, and the sun perpendicular to the “Holy of Holies” platform.

The Director of Aswan Antiquities, Dr. Shazly Ali Abdel Azim, said that the number of tourists and visitors who flocked to watch the phenomenon of the sun perpendicular to the face of King Ramses II reached 4,100 tourists of various nationalities, most of them from the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and China.

The phenomenon of the sun alignment in Abu Simbel is one of the recently discovered phenomena by archaeologists. Ancient Egyptians embodied this phenomenon thousands of years ago at the Temple of Ramses the Great in the city of Abu Simbel. It occurs on February 22nd and October 22nd every year, and both days are associated with the ancient Egyptian agricultural seasons of planting and harvesting. These two days were also considered important for the king, as one might be his birthday and the other the day of his coronation to the throne.
