The Turkish Communist Party said in a statement Thursday that NATO is not just a “protective umbrella” but a serious threat to the whole world, describing the alliance as a “terrorist organization.”
“In its 75-year history, NATO has inflicted incalculable losses not only on the peoples it considers hostile to, but on every member state, NATO has killed many people, destroyed many cities, and today it is implementing new genocidal plans,” the statement said, adding that it is “one of the worst things humanity has ever known.”
The statement criticized Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) for making repeated concessions to NATO and criticised the opposition in Turkey’s parliament for agreeing to Sweden and Finland’s applications to join the alliance.
The statement described NATO as “a ruthless terrorist organization, constantly planning new invasions and wars, interfering in the internal affairs of states, carrying out coups and assassinations, and offering bribes to politicians and journalists.”
April 4 is the seventy-fifth anniversary of the signing of the NATO formation agreement in Washington, and Turkey joined the alliance in 1952.
