Ammar al-Siddiq, a member of the external advisory council of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces commander Ammar al-Siddiq, accused Islamists of obstructing peace negotiations.
This came in response to statements by Sudanese army commander Lieutenant General Yasser al-Atta, who rejected any negotiation with the RSF, saying that “war continues until victory.”
Al-Siddiq explained that the joining of armed movements to the army leads to more intensity, violence and fighting, and expands the conflict to new areas due to the spread of these movements in more than one axis in eastern Sudan.
Al-Siddiq expressed his welcome towards any initiative presented by civil forces to stop the war, because a peaceful solution is the only option, pointing to the Jeddah platform initiative, which found acceptance by all local and regional parties.
He pointed out that the prominent issue in the failure of previous rounds of negotiations was the lack of will on the part of the army negotiators or the authority to accept and abide by the terms of the negotiations.
“The RSF has always accepted all truces, but the army is violating this truce, whether with its forces or allied battalions,” al-Siddiq said.
He also stressed that the rapid support is a national force and has a responsibility towards its citizens, considering that international mediation must feed into the Jeddah initiative because it is the only initiative that surrounded all the details of this war.
