The National Assembly of Libyan Parties accused the Government of National Unity of dismissing the Minister of Oil and Gas for the purpose of implementing invalid agreements.
The gathering referred to House of Representatives Resolution No. 15 of 2023, which prohibits prejudice to sovereign wealth and considers any agreement related to the field invalid, in addition to the warnings of the Audit Bureau and the Attorney General’s Office of the dangers of negotiations ignored by the Government of National Unity headed by Abdul Hamid Dabaiba.
The gathering expressed its deep concern about corruption in the oil sector and pointed to an unjustified rise in the fuel subsidy bill and illegal dealing with new companies, considering that suspicions hover around the government and the oil corporation because of their insistence on proceeding with the negotiations of the “NC7” agreement.
“The last action taken by the government was to remove its oil minister, Mohamed Aoun, as he is the only opponent within it of the suspicious agreements and procedures related to the oil and gas sector, as the government rushed to assign others in preparation for the conclusion of this agreement,” the gathering said.
The gathering stressed the importance of protecting national wealth and preventing prejudice to it and called on the Administrative Control Authority to be transparent in the decision to dismiss the Minister of Oil and called on the Audit Bureau and the Attorney General’s Office to investigate all possible corruption in the energy sector.
