A delegation from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football held discussions in Tunisia on Monday regarding the crisis in the local federation, after the imprisonment of its president, Wadih Al-Jari.

Since last October, a temporary body has been in charge of managing the Tunisian Federation after Al-Jari was imprisoned for investigation into suspicions of corruption, which threatened Tunisia’s participation in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Elections to select new members for the Executive Office were hampered twice due to the candidate lists not fulfilling the legal requirements.

The Tunisian Ministry of Youth and Sports stressed the need to review the electoral law and the statute of the federation.

During the meeting with the FIFA delegation, it was agreed that solutions must be consultative and respect national sovereignty.

Representatives of FIFA and CAF expressed their full readiness to cooperate with and support Tunisia in coordination with all parties, while emphasizing neutrality and transparency.

The delegation included Director of the African Member Federations of FIFA, Gilson Fernandes, the representative of the African Confederation, Jean-Jacques Diagne, and FIFA Governance Officer Ahmed Haraz.
