Soil has slipped in central Indonesia, killing 20 people, authorities said Tuesday.

Two villages in Sulawesi province were hit by landslides after heavy rains, which washed away homes and led to many deaths.

Two bodies, a forty-three-year-old woman, and her three-year-old son, were found, bringing the total number of victims to 20.

Authorities noted that heavy rains caused soil erosion in residential areas on mountain slopes, leading to devastating landslides.

Indonesia’s population regularly faces this type of disaster, and in some areas the problem has been exacerbated by logging.

Last month, at least 30 people died in floods and landslides on the island of Sumatra, as the search for the missing continued.

Indonesia is one of the countries most affected by natural disasters and needs continuous efforts to strengthen infrastructure and implement preventive measures to reduce human and material losses.
