The Arab Parliament decided to award South African President Cyril Ramaphosa the International Medal on behalf of the Arab people, after his country filed a lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice for its continuous bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

The medal is the highest awarded to international leaders who support the causes of the Arab nation and contribute to its support.

In his speech, the Speaker of Parliament, Adel Abdul Rahman Al-Asoumi, said: “This is a simple message to express thanks and appreciation for South Africa’s positions, especially with regard to filing a lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice.”

Al-Asoumi saluted the South African leadership, government and people for their positions and the unprecedented historic step of filing a lawsuit against Israel before the International Court of Justice in support of the Palestinian people and their just cause.

Al-Asoumi expressed his appreciation for the positions of free countries that triumphed for the principles of right, justice, and humanity, and did not succumb to pressure in defense of their values, according to him.

On January 11, the first hearing of the lawsuit began, in which the South African legal team presented the justification for filing a lawsuit against Israel for committing “genocide” in its war on the Gaza Strip.
