Sudan’s Foreign Ministry has criticized US State Department statements about “indiscriminate air attacks” carried out by the Sudanese army, while fighting continues in Sennar state.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that these allegations are baseless, and the US State Department did not explicitly condemn the violations carried out by the Rapid Support Forces, despite UN and international reports confirming these violations.

The ministry referred to “massacres and violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces” in several areas, and said that they mainly target unarmed civilians, especially the displaced, and condemned the Rapid Support Forces for preventing humanitarian access and their attacks on cities and villages.

A UN report issued last Tuesday said that the Rapid Support Forces and militias loyal to them kidnapped more than 160 girls and women last year, pointing to their detention in slavery-like conditions.

The RSF denied accusations of serious human rights abuses in areas under their control.

In the context of the situation on the ground, a source in the Sudanese army said that a fierce battle took place yesterday between its forces and the Rapid Support near a sugar factory at the entrance to Sennar state, south of Khartoum.

The source added that the army took control of the Shendi Fawq, causing about 100 deaths and dozens of injuries in the ranks of the support forces, while the army suffered losses in its ranks, the source did not specify the number.

Sudan is locked in a devastating war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has so far killed 15,000 Sudanese and displaced more than 8 million others, according to the United Nations and Sudanese organizations.
