The Russian ambassador to Djibouti and Somalia, Mikhail Golovanov, said, “Somalia shows interest in expanding multifaceted cooperation with Russia.”

He said, in an interview with the Russian “TASS” agency, that “Somalis refer to the period of intense cooperation between the Soviet Union and Somalia with nostalgia, noting the high level of interaction in various fields after the country gained independence.”

He added, “In contacts with the embassy, the Somali partners confirm that they highly appreciate our country’s role on the international scene, in maintaining global stability and its foreign policy based on the principles of building respectful dialogue and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.”

According to Golovanov, “The Somali side supports attracting Russian businessmen to do business in the country and believes that the money invested will pay off in the long term,” as he put it.

“It is useful to take into account in the future the great potential of hydrocarbons (oil and gas) and rare metal deposits in the Federal Republic of Somalia,” Golovanov noted.

In this regard, Russian economic operators, according to Golovanov, as the military-political situation in Somalia stabilizes, should “gradually look more closely at investment opportunities there, taking into account the potential of the Federal Reserve in the field of energy, mineral development (iron deposits, uranium and vanadium). titanium ores, bauxite, tin, and zinc), the fishing industry, and agriculture.”
