The media and social media platforms in Algeria celebrated Hajja Bennael Rabiha, 92 years old, for her candidacy to obtain a baccalaureate degree.
Hajja Rabiha, born in 1932, joined the examination center at Ben Lahrsh El Bashir High School in Hassi Bahbah, Djelfa Governorate, within the Arts and Philosophy Division, as part of her quest to achieve the dream of obtaining a baccalaureate degree, which opens the doors to higher education.
Hajja Rabiha’s journey with education began when she enrolled in literacy classes and obtained her liberation certificate in 2015. Then she joined the first year of intermediate school through the National Office for Distance Education and Training portal in the 2015/2016 season, and continued her educational path until she passed the intermediate education certificate.
She continued her journey of secondary education, reaching the last stage, which was the baccalaureate, last year and passing the 2023 session at the age of 91 years. Although she did not succeed in obtaining it, she remained committed to participating, which she demonstrated this year when she registered herself and joined the examination centers.
The story of Hajja Rabiha turned into a source of inspiration for many, as activists on social media platforms shared her pictures inside the exam center, stressing that her determination constitutes a strong incentive for young people to continue their education and not surrender to failure.
It is noteworthy that the baccalaureate exams for the June 2024 session began last Sunday and ended on Thursday, with the participation of more than 860,000 candidates distributed among 2,893 procedure centers in all states of the country.
These exams are considered an important gateway to higher education in Algeria, and annually attract a large number of candidates of different ages and backgrounds, including elderly people seeking to achieve their dreams of obtaining a degree.
