Safety plans for the Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Paris next summer were seriously jeopardized after an engineer’s bag was stolen from the Paris City Council on Monday at the Gare du Nord station.
Police sources said the stolen bag contained a computer and two memory sticks, containing sensitive security plans for the Olympics, and the engineer was preparing to participate in the preparation team to secure the sporting event.
The engineer pointed out that these devices contain sensitive data related to the municipal police’s plans to secure the Olympic Games.
Regional transport police are currently investigating the incident, and there has been no official comment from the Paris City Council so far.
Security preparations for the Paris Olympics are expected to be under the impact of this incident, as thousands of security personnel are set to be deployed to ensure the safety of the mega sporting event, which will attract hundreds of thousands of fans.
French security is facing major challenges, especially with the opening ceremony scheduled for boats on the Seine on July 26.
The number of spectators allowed at the opening ceremony has been reduced due to the challenges of managing large crowds and the risk of potential terrorist attacks.
