Russian foreign intelligence revealed an American plan to overthrow power in Georgia during the parliamentary elections scheduled to be held next October 26.
Russian intelligence explained in a statement that the White House is planning to discredit the ruling “Georgian Dream” party by promoting allegations linking the problems that Georgia is suffering from with Russia.
Intelligence added that Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili will play a pivotal role in this plan, as she will give an interview to an American media outlet in which she accuses the Georgian government of obstructing negotiations to join the European Union and warns of the disastrous consequences of rapprochement with Moscow.
According to the statement, the United States assigned the opposition forces in Georgia to organize mass protests in the country to increase pressure on the government.
The statement indicated that the Georgian parliament recently passed a law requiring any non-governmental organization or media outlet that receives more than 20% of its funding from abroad to register as “an organization that seeks to achieve the interests of a foreign power,” and to be subject to administrative control.
In response, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that the United States had begun a comprehensive review of bilateral cooperation with Georgia, accusing Tbilisi of adopting an anti-democratic and copycat law on US “foreign agents” law.
