Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday that recent statements by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky about ending the conflict in Ukraine may be related to the upcoming US elections.
Zakharova confirmed during a radio interview on “Sputnik” that Zelensky’s statements, which indicate the possibility of holding negotiations with Russia, may be part of a political strategy related to moves in the White House and the upcoming elections.
Zelensky had previously expressed Ukraine’s readiness to negotiate with Russia to end the ongoing conflict, despite the Ukrainian decree prohibiting negotiations with Moscow.
He confirmed in an interview with the “BBC” that he is open to dialogue with Russian representatives, including President Vladimir Putin, if there is a clear plan and is ready to discuss.
Zelensky also indicated that Kiev may be ready to participate in a “second summit” on Ukraine next November, if the world is united around its position and Russia’s willingness to participate in this summit.
