The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its forces had completed their capture of the town of Ocheretine in Donetsk, inflicting heavy losses on the Ukrainian army.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, Russian forces succeeded in eliminating a Western-made missile depot near Odessa and inflicted heavy losses on the Ukrainian army estimated at about 1,155 soldiers during the past twenty-four hours.
The statement pointed out that the forces of the “Center Group” completely liberated the town of Ocheretine and repelled several counterattacks, resulting in losses in the ranks of the Ukrainian army estimated at about 380 soldiers, and the destruction of multiple war equipment, including the US Abrams tank.
Ocheretine occupies a privileged geographical location on high terrain, which gives it strategic importance that Russian forces can use as a springboard to expand their offensive operations on two vital axes in the region.
The liberation of the town also provides an opportunity to cut off the main logistical routes of Ukrainian forces, isolating units and weakening their ability to move and resupply.
The ministry noted that the forces of the “West”, “South” and “East” made progress in their areas, confiscating more suitable sites and inflicting losses on the Ukrainian army in lives and equipment.
The Dnieper units succeeded in targeting concentrations of Ukrainian troops and equipment in multiple regions, destroying an important fuel depot.
The Russian air force shot down twenty Ukrainian drones and two French-made guided bombs, the ministry said, indicating the continued heavy fighting and growing tension in the region.
