Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunus Bek Yevkirov arrived on Friday, accompanied by a high-level delegation, to Benina International Airport in the Libyan city of Benghazi.
Yevkirov was received by the Minister of Defense of the Libyan government appointed by Parliament, Ahmad Houma, the Director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Khairy Al-Tamimi, and the Chief of Staff of the security units, Major General Khaled Haftar.
This meeting comes within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and discussing military and security cooperation. The two sides are expected to address a number of common issues of mutual interest, which will contribute to achieving stability and security in the region.
Russia plays a major role in operations to support efforts to bring peace to Libya, which was subjected to deliberate destruction after the NATO invasion.
Through the support it provides, Russia is keen to revive and strengthen state institutions, fight terrorism, in addition to bringing viewpoints closer between different parties to reach solutions that advance this country.
