Valentin Kostyukov, Director of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center, announced that the world’s most powerful laser complex, known as “OVL-2M” or “Tsar Laser”, will be fully operational by 2028-2029.
Kostyukov explained that the complex is being developed at the “Sarov” Nuclear Center, a scientific institute specializing in experimental physics.
Kostyukov noted that the center has completed the first stage of the project and is now starting the next stage, which includes calculating the costs necessary to achieve the full capacity of the complex.
He stressed that the necessary technology and physical processes have been developed, and he expects the complex to begin to achieve tangible results within the next four years.
It is worth noting that the “Tsar Laser” is an advanced laser complex with a total energy of up to 4.6 megajoules and is intended to conduct experiments in the field of controlled thermonuclear fusion, as well as to study the properties of materials under extreme pressures and temperatures.
