Russia imposed tough counterterrorism measures in three border regions with Ukraine on Saturday morning, following reports of a Ukrainian incursion into Russian territory.

The affected areas include Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk, where Russian forces are repelling attacks by Ukrainian forces.

Russian news agencies reported that these measures include the possibility of evacuating residents from some areas, imposing restrictions on movement, strengthening security measures around sensitive sites, and monitoring communications.

For its part, the United States announced the provision of new military aid to Ukraine worth $125 million, and U.S National Security Council spokesman John Kirby stressed that this package reflects Washington’s firm commitment to supporting Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.

U.S Secretary of State Antony Blinken indicated that the new aid will come from U.S stockpiles and includes air defense missiles, ammunition for missile systems, artillery, and anti-tank weapons.

The United States has been the largest military supporter of Ukraine since the conflict began in February 2022, providing more than $55 billion in security assistance to Kiev.

This aid comes at a time when Ukrainian forces are launching a surprise attack on the Russian Kursk region, which is one of the largest attacks on Russian territory since the beginning of the war.
