The French news agency AFP highlighted the preparations of Libyan athletes for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The agency reported that the six Libyan athletes competing in the Games participated in five different sports: athletics, rowing, shooting, swimming, and weightlifting.
Although the report was released before the athletes began their competitions, its predictions aligned with the results achieved. According to sports officials, the primary goal for the Libyan team was not to win medals but to improve national records.
The report particularly focused on Libyan shooter Mohamed Ben Della, the only athlete who qualified directly for the Olympics. Ben Della competed in the men’s 10m air pistol event but did not advance to the final, scoring 555 points and finishing in 32nd place.
Swimmer Yusuf Abu Bakr, specializing in the 100m backstroke, aimed to gain experience and face challenges during the competition. He competed in the men’s “100m freestyle”, finishing with a time of 56.19 seconds, placing 75th and failing to advance to the semifinals
Maalik Al-Mukhtar participated in the women’s 100m backstroke, completing the race in 1:10.99 minutes, placing 36th and not advancing to the semifinals.
Ahmed Abu Zeriba competed in weightlifting in the -102 kg category, representing Libya for the first time since 2004 in the Olympics.
