Egypt’s Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Ali El Moselhy, announced tight plans to provide reserves of basic commodities and sign purchase agreements exceeding 500,000 tons of sugar.
During a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to follow up on efforts to provide basic and basic commodities and increase the size of the strategic reserve, Al-Moselhy stressed that wheat supply operations are currently taking place at distinct rates and higher than any period during the past three years.
Arrangements are underway to secure stocks of oil, in addition to efforts in the fields of corn and soybeans, he said, noting that a network has been formed to monitor the available stocks of these two commodities and increase them continuously.
For his part, the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Al-Quseir, presented a report on the total quantities of feed released in the previous period, stressing the stability and decline of prices.
Al-Qusayr said that the required needs have been identified during the coming period, and work is being done to form a strategic reserve, so that a future crisis does not occur, pointing out that fodder worth $ 1.2 billion has been provided during the last four months.
At the end of the meeting, Madbouly stressed the importance of having a strategic reserve of basic commodities, and the readiness of the banking system to provide the necessary financing to increase it and stressed the importance of storing this reserve well to ensure the stability of markets and not to manipulate prices.
