The Russian Embassy in Libya opened the Russian school “Olivier” for holidays in Tripoli, on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the lifting of the famous siege of the Russian city of Leningrad.

The Russian embassy in Tripoli said in a statement that its diplomats gave a welcome speech during the opening ceremony, gave symbolic gifts to the schoolchildren, and held an educational lesson about the famous siege of Leningrad.

The siege of Leningrad began on September 8, 1941, and lasted nearly 900 days. The only route called the “Road of Life” through which the city was supplied with food was laid on the ice of Lake Ladoga. The siege was breached on January 18, 1943, but its complete dismantling occurred on January 27, 1944.
