Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan has begun a new round of talks in the context of trying to calm the situation in Sudan.

The Saudi minister had separate phone calls with the head of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti).

Saudi media reported that bin Farhan discussed during the two calls the latest developments in the current situation and its repercussions on the Sudanese people, who are facing great suffering as a result of the ongoing conflicts since mid-April 2023.

These conflicts have resulted in significant human losses, including thousands of deaths, as well as the displacement of nearly 8.5 million people and refugees.

Bin Farhan stressed, according to a statement by the Saudi Foreign Ministry, the importance of protecting Sudan and its people from further destruction and the exacerbation of the difficult humanitarian situation.

He pointed to the need to give priority to the interest of the Sudanese people and stop fighting to protect state institutions and ensure the country’s continuity towards safety and stability.
