The head of Médecins Sans Frontières, Christos Christo, declared that the needs of Sudanese refugees in Chad are “water, food and dignity.
After visiting refugee camps in Chad, Hristo pointed to refugees’ demands for “dignity”, as they collapse when they do not find the means to rebuild their lives.
Hristo added that MSF’s efforts have enabled refugees to receive 13 litres of water per day, while others in different areas receive three litres, explaining that MSF is making an effort outside its medical expertise to provide water.
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) provides the bulk of water needs in the camps of Adri, Abbotting, Michi and Acha, with the dry season approaching and temperatures approaching 50 degrees Celsius.
Although FAO provides 70 to 80 per cent of the water, it is not enough, with the region needing up to 20 litres of water per person per day.
Fighting in Sudan, which erupted in April between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has led to the displacement of large numbers, prompting more than 420,000 Sudanese refugees to seek safety in Chad.
