Japan’s ambassador to Libya, Shimura Izuru, announced a contribution of $630,000 from his country through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Libya, to compensate for the losses caused by the floods that hit eastern Libya.

During his meeting with the IOM Interim Head of Mission, Tawhid Pasha, Izuru noted that the Government and people of Japan share with deep sympathy the plight they have faced and expressed his country’s aspiration to enhance the resilience to natural disasters in Libya through this contribution.

Ambassador Izuru explained that Japan has provided emergency humanitarian assistance worth US$2.63 million, including a US$2 million Japan Emergency Grant, which was provided in early October last year, to support flood victims.

The announcement is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen humanitarian cooperation between Japan and Libya, with a focus on providing support to those affected and strengthening natural disaster response capacities.
