A large number of Libyans performed Eid al-Adha prayers in the cities of Derna and Tripoli, accompanied by commemorations of the victims of the Daniel Flood and tight security measures.
Hundreds of people from the city of Derna gathered in Darnis Club Square to perform Eid prayers, in the presence of the Director General of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, Belkacem Khalifa Haftar.
Haftar stressed the importance of the occasion to commemorate the victims of the flood that swept the city last September, and in a humanitarian gesture, camels were slaughtered, and sacrificial animals were slaughtered on behalf of the victims, as an expression of solidarity and sympathy with the families of those affected.
The Reconstruction Fund for Derna and the affected cities and regions explained, on its “Facebook” page, that these sacrifices come within the framework of supporting the local community and strengthening social ties.
Worshipers also gathered in the capital, Tripoli, in “Martyrs’ Square” to perform Eid al-Adha prayers, amid a heavy presence of security forces to ensure the safety of participants and regulate traffic.
The Tripoli Security Directorate took all precautionary measures to ensure that prayers proceed smoothly and safely, according to its statement on its Facebook page.
Pictures published by the directorate showed crowds of worshipers performing prayers in Al-Midan Square, reflecting the spirit of unity and brotherhood among Libyans on this blessed day.
Through this spiritual atmosphere, Libya seeks to strengthen national unity and overcome the crises that the country has gone through, as religious occasions are considered an opportunity to renew hope and strengthen social ties among the Libyan people.
