The Minister of Interior of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Imad Trabelsi, and his Tunisian counterpart, Kamal al-Fiqi, discussed the resumption of work at the Ras Jedir border crossing and the restoration of normal movement there.
The Tunisian Interior Ministry said in a statement that Trabelsi and al-Fiki discussed “the situation at the Ras Jedir land border crossing” during a phone call.
According to the statement, the two sides agreed on “the need to return to normal work at the crossing, and to continue to open it from both sides to the movement of passengers as soon as possible and to facilitate movement between the two brotherly countries.”
Trabelsi and al-Fiki stressed “the importance of the Ras Jedir border crossing and its vital role for the Tunisian and Libyan peoples”.
On the fourth of April, the head of the Libyan Joint Security Room, Major General Abdul Hakim al-Khaitouni, announced the receipt of the tasks of securing the “Ras Jedir” crossing from the General Staff of the Libyan Army, in preparation for the reopening of the crossing to travelers.
It is noteworthy that the Libyan Ministry of Interior in the Government of National Unity closed the border crossing “Ras Jedir” with Tunisia on the nineteenth of last March after armed groups attacked the security forces present there.
