The Coordinating Committee for University Instructors in Libya expressed its deep dissatisfaction with the actions taken against them by the Dbeibeh government.

According to the committee, the government does not appreciate the difficult circumstances faced by the instructors and has accused it of exceeding the specified duration of their employment and obstructing both domestic and international scholarship programs.

Instructors, who hold teaching positions at universities and institutes, are among the few groups that still receive salaries according to a decision issued in 2011, which sets the basic salary at 730 dinars plus allowances. In subsequent years, especially after 2012, these salaries were reduced to 664 dinars without any allowances, despite laws allowing instructors to receive increases.

The current interim government, led by Dbeibeh, has prevented instructors from benefiting from several education-related laws, including the University Law and the Unified Salary Scale Law, which serves as a replacement for previous decisions and includes all state employees.

According to a salary survey for 2024, the average salary in Libya is 265,704 Libyan dinars per year, with the majority of Libyans earning 129,087 Libyan dinars annually. Notably, salaries differ between men and women, with men earning an average of 283,992 Libyan dinars annually, while women earn 224,229 Libyan dinars per year.
