The National Institution for Human Rights in Libya held the “Dbeibeh” government responsible for the attack on the bus transporting Al-Khoms sports team players, demanding that an investigation be opened.

The bus of Al-Hams sports team players was set on fire in the Tajoura municipality of Tripoli, during their return from the match against the Libyan Stadium team, which resulted in 9 players being injured.

In a statement published on its Facebook page, the Foundation called for the immediate cessation of the Libyan League due to the risks to which players and fans are exposed and the failure of the management and organization of the league, and to prevent an unprecedented disaster.

The National Institution for Human Rights in Libya denounced the setting fire to the bus transporting Al-Khoms sports team players, in the municipality of Tajoura, holding the outgoing “Dbeibeh” government responsible for the attack and demanding an investigation.

It also called on the competent authorities, led by the Ministry of Interior, to immediately and comprehensively investigate the incident, ensure that the accused are prosecuted and brought to justice, and ensure that they do not escape punishment.

The Foundation held full legal responsibility for the designated Minister of Interior and the President of the Libyan Football Association.

It also stressed the importance of respecting the rights of athletes, maintaining a safe and violence-free sporting environment, providing protection for all teams, and ensuring their safety while practicing their activities.

She stressed that this act is a crime punishable by law, destabilizes security and stability, undermines the rule of law, and is a flagrant violation of human rights and sports laws and customs.

This shocking incident led to the people of Al-Khoms city closing the coastal road in protest against the attack the team was subjected to.

This incident reflects the deterioration of security in sports stadiums in Libya, which requires urgent intervention from the authorities to ensure the safety of players and fans during upcoming matches.
