Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was sworn in before the National Assembly, Kuwaiti state television reported.

Sheikh Meshaal succeeded Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who passed away on December 16 at the age of 86.

On November 29th, Kuwait’s Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, announced that Prince Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah had been hospitalized in Kuwait, noting that he had received the necessary medical assistance.

Kuwait’s former emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, died on December 16 and Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was announced as his successor.

According to the Kuwaiti constitution, after the death of the emir, power automatically passes to the crown prince, but he will not be able to assume power until he is sworn in in the National Assembly.
