A migrant was horribly tortured and flogged in the western Libyan city of Bani Walid after being kidnapped for ransom from his family.
A video circulated on social media showing a naked young man tied by his feet and hung from the ceiling, and someone beat him with a hand shovel.
Samuel Harrison, a 29-year-old from Ethiopia, graduated from the Faculty of Architecture since 2021, was forced to migrate to Libya after the death of his father and brother, without informing his family, due to the lack of job opportunities and low salaries, in order to cover the needs of his mother and the rest of his siblings.
In February, the kidnapper’s mother received a call from his captors informing her that he was being held in Bani Walid for a ransom of $15,000.
They sent her torture videos to her son, threatening to escalate if the ransom was not paid, but the mother informed her country’s police in order to save her son, but to no avail.
The kidnapper’s mother launched an online donation campaign to collect the amount the kidnappers demanded but was unsuccessful.
