The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Khoury, met with German Minister of State Katja Kohl.

In their meeting in Tripoli, Khoury and Cole stressed the need for the Libyan parties to participate in a meaningful dialogue sponsored by the United Nations to advance the political process and overcome divisions.

Khoury and the German Minister stressed the need for coordinated international support for efforts aimed at resolving the political crisis in Libya.

Khoury, an American citizen, arrived in Libya to succeed the UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batelli, who submitted his resignation to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Khoury held various positions related to conflict management and peacebuilding in the Middle East over a period of 30 years, during which she lived for about 15 years in the countries of Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Syria, Sudan, and Yemen. She also recently held the position of Director of Political Affairs at the United Nations Assistance Mission in the Transitional Phase in Sudan. .
