At least 5 security personnel were killed and 10 wounded in two separate attacks in southeastern Iran.
The attacks took place in the cities of Rusk and Chabahar, where Jaish al-Adl militants targeted IRGC headquarters in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
At least eight gunmen were reportedly killed during an exchange of fire with security forces.
The group is reportedly frequently active in the region and is embroiled in multiple conflicts with Iranian authorities.
Iranian authorities also announced in January that two of the group’s bases in Pakistan had been targeted with missiles, escalating tensions in the region.
In a statement, Iranian Assistant Interior Minister Majid Mir Ahmadi confirmed that the police headquarters of the border guards and the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards in Rask were subjected to simultaneous attacks by a “terrorist group” and were ambushed on the road to prevent the dispatch of auxiliary forces.
Alireza Rahmati, assistant governor of Balochistan province for security affairs, confirmed that three security forces were killed in the attack on the Rusk and Chabahar headquarters.
Iranian security forces announced the end of operations against terrorists in Sistan and Baluchestan and the elimination of all of them and the liberation of hostages held by militants as they fled the area of clashes that took place following their attack on security headquarters.
