Algeria’s liquefied natural gas exports rose in the first two months of this year, recent data showed.

Data announced by the Energy Research Unit in Washington showed that the year-on-year increase was 3% compared to last year, and 33% compared to the same period in 2022.

According to the data, the total Algerian liquefied gas exports during January and February 2024 amounted to about 2.026 million tons, compared to 1.966 million tons in the same two months of 2023.

Algerian exports of liquefied gas achieved an annual growth rate of 26.1%, to be the highest and only at the level of Arab countries during 2023, benefiting from the war in Ukraine and the accompanying Western sanctions on Russia, which prompted European Union countries to increase dependence on Algerian gas.

European countries topped the list of Algerian liquefied gas importers in 2023, especially Turkey, France, Italy, and Spain respectively.

Algeria exported 4.3 million tonnes to Turkey and about 3.2 million tonnes to France, and exports to Italy and Spain amounted to 1.8 million and 1.4 million tonnes respectively.
