A video showing a Tunisian school student being honored for wearing the hijab has sparked a fierce debate about the appropriateness of this behavior within the educational environment.

The video clip went viral, showing a scene of a professor serving a cake to one of his students decorated with the phrase “Mubarak Hijab”, amid warm applause from her fellow students.

The event was met with mixed reactions, with some seeing it as a distinction and a confusion between religious and educational, while others saw it as an encouragement to positive behavior.

On the other hand, some activists found that this work goes beyond the boundaries of the educational process and poses a danger to education, demanding that the teacher be punished.

Activist Mohamed Touzi described the incident as a “crime” and that the professor had used his power to impose his ideas, while blogger Yaqeen Belqees stressed that the hijab is a personal affair and should not be interfered with.

On the other hand, activist Afaf al-Azzouzi defended the professor, considering the celebration of the hijab an act in line with the values of the Muslim community, and shows the human side of the professor.

Blogger Samir Souissi warned that such actions may jeopardize the educational process, stressing the importance of teachers’ commitment to equality and moral values in dealing with students.

Tunisia banned headscarves in public places and government workplaces during the rule of President Ben Ali, and after its removal in 2011, the hijab became available everywhere and there was no refusal or reparation to remove it.
