The embassies of five major countries, namely the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy, expressed their deep concerns about the ongoing military escalation in southwestern Libya.
These statements came in a joint statement issued today, Friday, where the statement indicated that the current military movements could lead to a dangerous escalation of the situation in light of the ongoing political stalemate.
The statement explained that these movements could lead to an escalation of tensions and violent confrontations, at a critical time when Libya is witnessing a state of instability.
The statement called on the security forces in eastern and western Libya to seize the opportunity to enhance cooperation and consultation, with the aim of implementing effective measures to ensure border security and protect the country’s sovereignty. This call came in light of real concerns related to the security of Libya’s southern borders.
For its part, the Chief of Staff of the Land Forces affiliated with the General Command led by Saddam Haftar announced the transfer of military units to cities and regions in the southwest, stressing that these movements are not directed against any particular party.
In response to the military escalation, the General Staff, the Joint Operations Force, and the National Support Force of the interim Government of National Unity in Tripoli announced raising the level of readiness and preparedness among the army forces and elements affiliated with those parties.
