The Egyptian government confirmed that the Dabaa nuclear plant project implemented by the Russian company “Rosatom” is an important element of the sustainable development strategy in Egypt’s Vision 2030, and that it is a long-awaited dream.
The government indicated in a press release that this project consists of three main phases.
The first phase of the project began with the preparation of the plant, which began in December 2017 and is expected to last for two and a half to four years.
The second phase includes building, construction, training, and test preparation, and is scheduled to last for five and a half years, while the third phase includes pre-commissioning and actual tests, and is expected to extend for up to 11 months.
The statement issued by the Egyptian government stressed that the progress in the implementation of the project is proceeding according to the announced schedule, as several important stages have been completed, including the completion of the concrete casting of the various nuclear units, and the start of some of the necessary installation work.
The Dabaa nuclear plant is expected to open a new field in Egypt using this new technology and will provide new training opportunities and expertise for Egyptian engineers and technicians, which is a real gain for the country and contributes to the transfer and localization of nuclear technology.
